Hawaii Representative from Maui Passes Away after 16 Years in Service at the State Legislature

Rep. Bob Nakasone (D) passed away on Sunday according to the Star Bulletin.  

He represented the 9th Representative District on Maui (Kahului, Wailuku, Puunene, Spreckelsville, Paia) and was a member on the following committees Labor & Public Employment (Vice-Chair), Finance, Public Safety, and Transportation.  Mr. Nakasone was a good man with a long and successful career in public service.  He will be missed. 

The governor must make an appointment within 60 calendar days following the first day of vacancy to fill the vacancy for the unexpired term.  The interim selection must be from a list of 3 prospective appointees submitted by the Democratic Party of Hawaii. HRS § 17-4.
