Kona Community Development Plan Draft Available for Review

Under The Hawaii State Planning Act, Hawaii's counties must adopt county general plans by ordinance. Those plans have the force and effect of law. Any land use, zoning, and permitting must be consistent with those plans.

Under the Planning Act, counties may also adopt development plans (also called, community plans) by ordinance. Development plans, which take a closer look at particular regions in a county, become part of the general plan. Maui County, for example, has nine community plans that address specific regions in Maui County.

The Kona Community Development Plan would be the first community plan to be adopted in Hawaii County. The Kona CDP May 2008 Draft - Volume 1 and the Kona CDP Background Information - Volume 2 are available for review.
