Governor Appoints OEQC Director

Governor Linda Lingle named Katherine Puana Kealoha, who was instrumental in forming the environmental crimes unit within the Honolulu Prosecutor’s Office, to serve as director of the state Office of Environmental Quality Control ("OEQC"). Kealoha’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation. She will start her new position on Feb. 20. See, http://hawaii.gov/gov/news/releases/2008/governor-appoints-katherine-kealoha-as-director.

The OEQC is charged with coordinating and directing state governmental agencies in matters concerning environmental quality. See, chapter 341-4, HRS. The OEQC also works with the Environmental Council who is charged with adopting rules to implement Hawaii's EIS law under chapter 343, HRS.
