Executive Officer Position Vacant at State Land Use Commission

On December 5, 2007, members of the Hawaii Community Development Authority ("HCDA") selected Anthony J. H. Ching as its new executive director according to a press release by the HCDA. Ching's appointment creates a vacancy at the State Land Use Commission ("LUC") where he was the Executive Officer since 2001.

A replacement executive officer has not yet been appointed by the LUC. The executive officer acts as the administrative head of the LUC staff. Among other duties, he prepares a hearings calendar and the agenda for all meetings; certifies all decisions and orders and other actions of the LUC; responds to public information requests; interprets land use district boundaries; and conducts the prehearing conference for district boundary amendment proceedings before the LUC. See HAR §15-15-07. The executive officer also receives and reviews a petition for district boundary amendment for completeness, thus serving as a gatekeeper to appearances before the LUC. See HAR §§15-15-51(e), (f).

Ching will assume his duties at the HCDA on January 2, 2008.
